Canadian girls don’t shy away from loading up the car with a tent and heading to a provincial park for a weekend of camping. Sleeping under the stars, all snuggled up in a tent is very refreshing, but there is a ton of work involved, especially if you’re the ‘organizer’ in your friend group. We used to go camping once or twice every summer but for the past few years trips abroad have taken precedence over camping – honestly, an all inclusive down south is less work and stress than camping. Lately I’ve become enamoured by the idea of ‘glamping’ (glamourous camping…or camping for brats) – sleeping under the stars in a beautiful canvas tent, with all the comfort of home! You can glamp all over the world (surf + yoga retreat in Portugal anyone?) but really I just like the idea of staying in Ontario – we do have the best camping in the world!
I like to think of Labour Day weekend as the true last hurrah of summer before we fall into the best season EVER – FALL! With the kiddo’s heading back to fall, vacations wrapping up, and everyone basically getting back into the swing of things, you may be looking for a new recipe or two to shake up your meal prep. Well, have I got a recipe for you! This is the perfect treat to bake up on Sunday and then keep in the fridge for your hectic mornings, boxing up for lunch al-desko, an after school (or work) snack, or late night treat. My Mom is doing the Sugar Free September challenge so these carrot cream cheese squares have ZERO white sugar. In fact, the sweetness comes from lots and lots of carrots plus a dash of maple syrup and I even snuck in some granola for extra goodness.
Once in a while, on a sunny weekend morning, instead of my typical lie-in, I wake up as the sun rises with a spring in my step and I simply can’t laze about! On these (admittedly) rare mornings, I grab a cup of coffee, some cash and my bag and run out to the farmers market. The other day, with the hubby-to-be still fast asleep, I snuck out of the house armed with my camera to the farmers market at the Evergreen Brickworks.
Are you looking for a easy appetizer to bring along to a summer picnic? These rice paper rolls are not only deliciously easy to put together (no oven required!), they are fresh, savoury, crunchy and bursting with flavour. Did I mention these rolls are low carb too?! You may have had rice paper rolls at your favourite Vietnamese restaurant and wondered how they put these yummy little packets together. One of our friends gave us her family’s recipe and we couldn’t help but share it with our Trade and Charm followers. It’s now one of my favourite new dishes and the best possible thing you can eat if you’re trying to slim down for summer.
Jessica and I are firm believers in finding a skin care routine that works for you and sticking with it. My number one secret for maintaining great skin is consistency with my skin care routine. We are constantly bombarded with the newest miracle product that will give you and everyone else gorgeous skin instantly. Don’t get me wrong, we love to try new products and are always always searching for the next holy grail – reading Sephora reviews for hours is a guilty pleasure of mine! But when I introduce a new product into my skin care routine, I’m SO SO careful. I always google the heck out of any new product I want to try to find as many reviews by honest bloggers I can. K-Beauty (or Korean Beauty) has been an open secret in the west for a while. K-Beauty companies are always on the cutting edge of the latest skin care science and technology. Sometimes the result can be a bit whacky for my Canadian tastes (snail goop!?), but hey, whatever works right?! Here are some of my favourite K-Beauty products currently on rotation in my skin care regime.
Spring is in the air, and our skin is practically starving for some moisture and sun. Winter is super harsh on our precious skin, and I am feeling the effects of it. Right now my skin is rebelling – and I have a few breakouts I am trying to control! Even with my tried and true skin routine, breakouts can happen. Haven’t seen it? Read it here!
Canada is a spectacularly gorgeous country. Lauren and I have been travelling so much lately we needed a reminder of how blessed we are to have such bountiful nature in our backyard. Especially in the beginning of Spring, coming out of winter for me is like breaking out of a long-ass hibernation, feeling like a raging hangover. Unless you are living in parts of the country where the landscape is hard to miss like beautiful British Columbia or Amazing Alberta, you can easily forget to simply “get outdoors”. What better way to kick the winter blues and escape the concrete jungle than go for a good old wander where the wifi is weak but the views are everything?
After a very indulgent Valentine’s Day, Jess and I wanted to get back on the right track with a good clean lunch. We went in search of somewhere new in Toronto that would offer a quick healthy lunch on a busy day. We found a hidden treasure – Xo Bisous!
